Ramesh Sippy's Sholay will be completing 50 years of its release on August 15, 2025. On Monday, while talking to ANI about it, Hema Malini said, "Hame khushi hoti hai. Jab kaam karna shuru kiya tha tab maalom nahi tha, itna bada hit hoga and after 50 years, you are going to ask me a question about that in Parliament."
Sholay starring Sanjeev Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan, and Amjad Khan, is undoubtedly one of the best film made in Bollywood. On Independence Day this year, the film will complete 50 years of its release. On Monday, ANI spoke to Hema Malini about her iconic film completing 50 years.
While talking about it, she said, " and after 50 years, you are going to ask me a question about that in Parliament (I feel happy. When we started working on the film, we had no idea that it would become such a big hit, and that after 50 years, you are going to ask me a question about it in Parliament)."
She added, " (At that time, I had no idea that I would come to Parliament. That was a different time, and the movie just got made. It is difficult to make another Sholay)."
Sholay is regarded as a cult film, but not many would know that when the film was released, it received negative reviews and in the first two weeks, it failed to make a mark at the box office. However, later it started doing well because of the positive word of mouth.
The Ramesh Sippy directorial was screened at Mumbai's Minerva theatre for five years. It was the longest-running movie until Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge broke its record.
