In the political corridors of Bihar, the case of Tejashwi Yadav holding two voter IDs remains a matter of discussion. But this is not just a case of a leader – it is also a warning for the general public.

Many people get the facility or unknowingly the same government document twice – such as two Aadhaar cards, two PAN cards or two voter IDs. But do you know, it is a legal offense, and can be both jail and fine for this?

Let us understand which documents are illegal to make duplicate, and what to do if it happens by mistake.

Why is it a crime to have two voter IDs and what is punishment?

Voter ID is necessary not only for voting, but also for identity. Many times people get voter cards again at the new address after shifting from one state to another. This causes them to have two different EPIC numbers-which is a crime under the Represtation of the People Act, 1950.

Punishment:
➡ Jail for one year

The same question is in the case of Tejashwi Yadav-Do they have different voter IDs for two assembly constituencies?

Why is it a serious crime to make two Aadhaar cards?

Aadhaar card is a unique biometric identity card. UIDAI has a clear instruction that a person must have only one Aadhaar card.

If a person fakes a second base or uses someone else’s base, then it is considered an identity fraud.

Punishment:

Due to the biometric system in Aadhaar, it is difficult to make two cards, but if it happens in some way – strict action is fixed.

What happens when PAN card is two?

PAN card is a required document to tax. If someone has two PAN cards found – then it is considered an attempt to hide tax fraud or identity.

Under Section 272B of Income Tax Act, 1961:

The government is now identifying those with double PAN cards like digital technology like PAN 2.0.

What to do if you have two documents?

If you have unknowingly built two Aadhaar, PAN or Voter IDs – then there is a need to improve, not to panic. Take these steps immediately:

  1. Surrender a document – visit the website or office of the concerned department
  2. Apply online to cancel duplicate
  3. Take the initiative yourself so that you do not become fined or a case
  4. Avoid giving false information – it falls under the category of crime
