New Direct Flights to Enhance Connectivity
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced that direct flights between New Delhi and Manila will commence on October 1, marking a significant step towards enhancing regional connectivity and fostering relationships between the two nations. This announcement was made during a special press conference held in conjunction with the state visit of Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to India. P. Kumaran, Secretary (East) of the MEA, stated that Air India is expected to initiate this direct service, establishing a crucial link between the capitals of India and the Philippines. The direct flight from Delhi to Manila is set to begin on October 1, with discussions ongoing regarding increasing air connectivity to other destinations.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at deepening bilateral relations in areas such as tourism, trade, and cultural exchange. Both countries are exploring additional destinations to enhance air connectivity in the near future. Earlier in the day, during a joint press statement, President Marcos welcomed the new flight initiative and announced the facilitation of visa-free entry for Indian tourists visiting the Philippines. In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed that India will provide free e-visas for tourists from the Philippines.
Invitation for Increased Tourism
President Marcos reiterated the introduction of visa-free entry facilities and extended an invitation for more Indian tourists to visit the Philippines. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for the plan to offer free visas to Filipino tourists coming to India. Marcos welcomed the resumption of direct flights starting this October and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding such air connectivity.
