Sanskrit Week Celebrations at Maharishi Valmiki Sanskrit University
In Kaithal, Maharishi Valmiki Sanskrit University is hosting a series of events under 'Sanskrit Week' to promote the significance of the Sanskrit language and Indian knowledge traditions. Under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajbir Singh, the university's Indian Knowledge Tradition Research and Training Center, in collaboration with Sanskrit Bharati, has launched two ten-day Sanskrit conversation training camps. These camps are scheduled from August 5 to August 14, 2025, taking place daily from 9:15 AM to 10:30 AM at the university's Tika campus.
During the inauguration ceremony, Prof. Sanjay Goyal, the university's Registrar and Academic Dean, emphasized that Sanskrit is the foundational source of Indian knowledge traditions. He stated that Sanskrit is not merely a language but the bedrock of our civilization and culture. He particularly praised organizations like Sanskrit Bharati for their commendable efforts to make Sanskrit a practical language beyond academia. He encouraged students to incorporate Sanskrit into their daily lives and foster an environment at the university where Sanskrit is prevalent.
Dr. Jagat Narayan, the Dean of the Faculty of Literature and Culture, addressed the students, urging them to not only learn Sanskrit but also to imbue their behavior with its values. He elaborated on how Sanskrit extends beyond grammar and literature, influencing our life values and ethics. Through practical examples, he highlighted the relevance and utility of Sanskrit in contemporary life.
The training camps are designed to familiarize students pursuing Shastri, Acharya, and Diploma courses with the Sanskrit language. The primary goal is to teach Sanskrit in an engaging manner and to convey its simplicity. On the first day of the camp, students were taught to introduce themselves in Sanskrit through a playful approach, making the learning process enjoyable and accessible.
The successful execution of these training camps is being overseen by Dr. Naveen Sharma, Assistant Professor in the Astrology Department, and Dr. Vinay Gopal Tripathi, Assistant Professor in the Philosophy Department, who are serving as coordinators. They are joined by experienced volunteers from Sanskrit Bharati, including Mohit, Sachin, Manju, and Akshay, who are actively teaching students practical conversation skills in Sanskrit.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Krishna Chandra Pandey, Head of the Hindu Studies Department, who encouraged all students to participate fully in the ten-day training camp to maximize their learning experience. Other members of the university community, including Dr. Ramanand Mishra, Dr. Devendra Singh, Dr. Chandrakant, Dr. Govind Vallabh, and Dr. Harish, were also present at the event.
