Indias first superstar Rajesh Khanna married Dimple Kapadia despite she was 16 years younger than him. Dimple who made her debut in Bollywood Rajesh fell in love with her and decided to marry her. The couple soon became the most talked-about couple in B-town. The two got married in 1973. Before their marriage Dimple Kapadia made her debut in Raj Kapoors directorial Bobby. After this Dimple took a break from the film industry putting her career on pause. Several media reports revealed Rajesh Khanna played a pivotal role in Dimples decision to quit the film after marriage. Why did Dimple Kapadia disappear after her debut in Bobby? Bobby was a huge success in 1973; the film was a blockbuster at the box office. Debutant Dimple Kapadia became an overnight sensation in Bollywood since she was a new face in the film industry. You might be thinking that after delivering such a blockbuster film Dimple Kapadias career would have seen far more success. But here is where you go wrong. Unlike other divas Dimple Kapadia decided to step down from the film industry. After giving just one film Dimple withdrew from films and disappeared from the industry for 10 long years. Dimple became the mother of two daughters and she chose to look after her children Twinkle Khanna and Rinke Khanna. Another topic of conversation became when the two forced their wives to step down from their acting careers. You will be surprised to know Rajesh Khanna didnt even see Dimple Kapadia in Bobby even before he concluded that Dimple Kapadia must not do acting. Khanna said I had no problems with my wife working. But when I married Dimple I wanted a mother for my children. I didn’t want them to be brought up by servants. And I had no idea of Dimple’s talent; Bobby was still not released. Later on Rajesh Khanna watched Dimple Kapadias Bobby and later realised she was filled with talent. Khanna revealed Besides if I knew at that moment that Bobby would prove her talent I wouldn’t have stopped her. To curb talent is cruel. By the time I saw Bobby our first daughter was already born. He further said When I told one of my daughters Twinkle that if she would like to act in a film I would produce one for her. She said ‘You will let me act but to Mummy you say no.’ I said For the simple reason that I am your father and not your husband. After quitting films Dimple Kapadia looked after her children and gave them the attention they needed. However reportedly during the early 1980s the couple decided to part ways from their marriage. However it is worth noting that the couple never officially filed for divorce. Even during Rajesh Khannas toughest days Dimple stood with him. In 2012 Rajesh Khanna passed away after battling cancer.
