Security from unknown people in group
According to WABETAINFO report, if a user is added to an unknown person (who is not in the user’s contact list), the app will show a safety overview screen.
You will get this information on this screen:
-Who has added to the group?
-Is that person in your contacts?
-Are other members of the group in your phonebook or not?
Till the user decides to stay in the group themselves, all the notifications of that group will remain muted. This will provide protection from fishing attacks and spam to users.
Alert in personal chat too
WhatsApp has also seen that scammers often contact users of other social media platforms and bring them to WhatsApp and then make them a victim of cheating. To prevent this trend, the app is now testing a new safety alert.
When a user starts chatting with someone who is not in his contact list, WhatsApp will show a pop-up alert. This alert will have some information to that person, so that the user can start chatting carefully.
Action on millions of fake accounts
WhatsApp has reported that the company has recently removed more than 68 lakh scams and fake accounts. This shows that the platform is taking a tough stand against scammers.
The company has also clarified that end-to-end encryption and user privacy will always remain, but necessary steps will be taken to strengthen the safety of the user.
