“I’m a big durian guy,” Butler said during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, as reported by The Star. “Growing up, my mum would get the frozen ones from the store. But trying it fresh for the first time was mind-blowing. I love it!”
Born in Singapore to a Malaysian-Chinese mother and an English-Dutch father, Butler moved to the U.S. at age four.
The actor also praised Malaysian cuisine, though he joked about its downside for actors.
“I love the food, which isn’t great if you’re an actor because you’re eating way too much on set,” he said.
When asked about his favorite filming location, Butler pointed to Batu Caves—less for its iconic steps than for its monkeys.
“It’s mainly because of the monkeys and not so much the steps,” he quipped. “Another fun fact—Lana [Condor, his co-star] is very scared of monkeys, and there was a very big one we had to keep scaring away.”
“Worth the Wait” was released in the U.S. on May 23, 2025, and is set to premiere in Southeast Asian markets later this month.
At 35, Butler started his acting career when he was 21. His notable projects include “Shazam!” and “13 Reasons Why.”
