The release of the WBCAP UG Merit List 2025 has been delayed, causing uncertainty for students awaiting admission updates. The delay is linked to ongoing legal issues regarding OBC reservation policies. A new release date has not been announced yet; students are advised to monitor the official portal for further updates.
WBCAP UG Merit List 2025: The West Bengal Centralised Admission Portal (WBCAP) UG merit list 2025 release has been delayed, extending the suspense among thousands of prospective undergraduate students throughout the state. The West Bengal Council of Higher Education (WBSCHE) was supposed to come out with the Phase 1 merit list on August 7, but there is no official release yet, according to media reports.
This postponement is set against the background of continued legal action related to the reservation policy. A recent order of the Calcutta High Court suspended all actions related to admissions after issues were brought up over OBC quota implementation in WBJEE and JEMAS-PG 2024 admissions. Justice Kausik Chanda issued a stay, which will hold until a Division Bench considers the appeal against the High Court's previous order of May 21.
The state government, realising the uncertainty, had postponed the WBCAP UG admission deadline till midnight of August 5, and permitted students to revise their category details from July 29. In spite of all these actions, the merit list is kept pending, putting students in a state of limbo.
After the merit list is declared, the candidates will be able to view their WBCAP merit rank and seat allotment on the official website at wbcap.in. Candidates who have been allotted a seat should immediately fulfill the admission formalities, pay the seat acceptance fee through UPI, card, net banking, or QR code, and then get the documents verified at the college allotted.
Students are advised to keep checking the official website for updates, as the admission schedule continues to be redefined in response to constant legal battles.
