Mumbai: In Hinduism, the festival of Teej holds deep spiritual and cultural importance for married women. Celebrated three times a year, Teej is most significant during the monsoon and early autumn months. The first Teej of the year is observed in the month of Sawan and is popularly known as Hariyali Teej. Fifteen days after Hariyali Teej, another Teej celebration follows.

As the month of Sawan ends, it gives way to Bhadrapada (Bhado), which is when Kajari Teej and Hartalika Teej are celebrated. Kajari Teej usually falls three days after Raksha Bandhan and is observed on the Krishna Paksha Tritiya (third day of the waning moon) of Bhadrapada. Also known as Badi Teej, Kajli Teej, or Satudi Teej in various regions, this occasion holds great spiritual significance and is especially observed by married women praying for their husband’s longevity and prosperity.

Kajari Teej 2025 Date and Timings

In 2025, Kajari Teej will be observed on Tuesday, 12 August. The Tritiya Tithi begins at 10:33 AM on 11 August and ends at 8:40 AM on 12 August 2025.

On this day, married women undertake a day-long fast and pray for their husbands’ long life, good health, and success. According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Parvati is believed to have performed this fast to win Lord Shiva as her consort. Impressed by her unwavering devotion and penance, Lord Shiva accepted her as his wife.

Hartalika Teej 2025 Date, Puja Muhurat and Story

Hartalika Teej is celebrated on the Shukla Paksha Tritiya (third day of the waxing moon) in the month of Bhadrapada. In 2025, the Tritiya Tithi begins at 3:04 AM on 25 August and ends at 4:24 AM on 26 August. The fast will be observed on Monday, 25 August 2025.

On this day, women worship clay idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, praying for marital bliss and healthy progeny. As per legend, Parvati’s friends abducted her and hid her in the forest to prevent her forced marriage to Lord Vishnu by her father. This act of ‘hartalika’ (abduction by friends) gave the festival its name.

Hartalika Teej is marked by strict fasting, devotion, and rituals observed by married women and those hoping to be blessed with a good spouse.
