The UK city with the most charity shops has been revealed and locals have listed the best areas to go. Brits love their charity shops and they are a staple on many UK high streets. Not only is charity shopping a sustainable way to recycle clothes, furniture, and decorations and books, but they are also a vital fundraising source for many British charities doing important work at home and abroad.

One UK city has been named the best place to go for its charity shops. New data from The Co-Operative Bank examined each city in the UK and where you will have the best experience looking for charity shops. While Norwich was named the best thrift city in the UK, Bristol was named the UK city with the most charity shops. The study found that Bristol, located in the west of the country, has a total of 145 charity shops.

The bank's PR lead, Sophie McHale, said: "Every week, 13 million items end up in landfill, and second-hand shopping can prevent more landfill waste from accumulating. On top of that, you can save up to 25% per item, which could add up to £185 a year. Each purchase can then leave money over that could go towards your savings or other financial goals."

On social media sites like Reddit, people have shared the best areas in the city of Bristol for charity shopping. One person recommended Gloucester Road, which has a "good run" of charity shops.

Another suggested Bedminster, writing: "East St is definitely more varied and has more choice of shops, but it's worth the walk down North St if you're in the area anyway as they aren't far from each other."

A third said: "You should hit up Keynsham - practically a whole road of charity shops!"

According to sustainable fashion blogger LivLoves, the best places in Bristol for charity shops are:

  • Fishponds
  • Staple Hill
  • Kingswood
  • Westbury on Trym
  • Thornbury
  • Yate

While Bristol has the most charity shops, there are others that have more thrift shops per square mile. While Norwich took the top spot, other cities that are great for charity shops and thrifting are Nottingham, Manchester, Cambridge, Oxford, Southampton, Derby, Portsmouth and Leicester.
