World Lion Day World Lion Day: The World Sher Day, celebrated on 10 August, is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of safety of the lion, one of the planet’s most prestigious animals.

Lions known for their shapes, strengths, huge claws and formidable teeth get respect from the same roar. Worshiped as a symbol of courage and power around the world, these lions, are also unique in large cats to live in groups, called prides.

For nature conservation, the International Association has warned that their number may continue to fall without serious protection efforts, and the loss of housing and lack of food have been described as the major threats.

World Lion Day was first celebrated in 2013 with the aim of highlighting the challenges faced by lions and encouraging global protection works.
