Bhubaneswar: Police on Sunday arrested a newly-wed man after his wife was found hanging inside his house at Dhirukuti Sahi under Mancheswar police limits in Bhubaneswar.
The deceased has been identified as Tripti Nayak, daughter of Subash Nayak from Andharua village in Bhubaneswar.
Her family members alleged that it was a premeditated murder and later painted as a case of suicide. They further claimed that Tripti was harassed by her in-laws for dowry and was barred from speaking to her parents. The family received the news of her death while they were expecting her at their place for Khudurukuni Osha.
The wedding took place in February.
Following a written complaint, Mancheswar police registered a case under Sections 85 (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and arrested her husband, Bikram Nayak. The woman’s in-laws have also been detained for questioning.
Meanwhile, police have seized the body and sent it to Capital Hospital here for postmortem, sources added.
