
WhatsApp is gearing up to bring a new twist to photo sharing. The platform is reportedly testing a motion photos feature on Android, spotted in the latest beta update (v2.25.22.29) by WABetaInfo. This feature captures movement and sound from just before and after a photo is taken — letting users share more lively, immersive moments.
Currently available to some beta testers via Google Play, the rollout may take a few days to reach everyone in the beta programme.e. Screenshots from WABetaInfo show a new play-button icon inside a circular ring, appearing in the top-right corner of the image selection screen. Tapping it will enable sending the image as a motion photo. WhatsApp describes these as “a recording of the moments before & after a photo was taken”and confirms audio will be included.
The feature isn’t entirely new to Android users—Samsunglready offers it as “Motion Photos”,, and Google’s Pixel phones have “Top Shot”. WhatsApp’s implementation will work with devices that support motion photo capture. Even if your phone can’t take them, you’ll still be able to view those sent by others.
