Shocking Crime Unfolds in Odisha

In a horrifying incident in Berhampur, Odisha, a 32-year-old woman was brutally murdered, and her 12-year-old daughter was left critically injured after their throats were slit on Monday, according to police reports.

The attack took place in Sree Maa Nagar, located on the city's outskirts, under the jurisdiction of the Berhampur Sadar police station.

The victim has been identified as Gayatri Swain. She and her daughter were residing on the ground floor of a building, while the landlord occupied the first floor. Her husband, Sadhu Charan Swain, was in Bhubaneswar for work.

Authorities revealed that the assailants locked the house's entrance before fleeing the scene post-crime.

The situation came to light when the landlord alerted the police.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Gayatri's body in a pool of blood.

The injured girl was initially taken to MKCG Medical College and Hospital and later transferred to AIIMS Bhubaneswar due to her critical state.

Senior police officials, including Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M, along with a forensic team, examined the crime scene. Since there were no signs of robbery, the police dismissed theft as a motive.

Investigators suspect that personal relationships may have played a role in the crime, as the individual linked to the victim is currently missing.

The SP stated, "We are exploring various angles in this case."

Further insights are expected after questioning the victim's husband, who has returned from Bhubaneswar following the incident.

Police are also reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity.
