A campaign to register objections and claims is going on under the Special Voter List Reform (SIR) process of the Election Commission in Bihar. According to the Commission, 13,970 electors have directly filed claims and objections by 12 am on August 12. Interestingly, the political parties who had recently made political statements about the voter list from Bihar to Delhi have not filed any formal objection before the Election Commission.

According to the Daily Bulletin of the Election Commission, a total of 63,591 entries have been received from Form-6 and manifesto from voters aged 18 or older. Of these, 341 cases have been disposed of within seven days out of 13,970 objections and claims to electoral rolls.

The Commission said that there are 1,60,813 booth level agents (BLA) of 12 national and regional parties in the entire Bihar, but none of them have lodged any objection to adding or removing names in the voter list. These BLAs include 17,549 Congress and 47,506 agents of RJD.

According to the rules, claims and objections are disposed of only after examining the eligibility documents by the concerned ERO or AERO. The Commission has clarified that no name will be removed from the list without investigation and ‘speaking order’.

It is noteworthy that the process of registering this objection has been started since the draft voter list has been released on 1 August. At present, the silence of the opposition is emerging as the biggest question in this process.
