The Supreme Court has ordered no punitive action against 10 to 15 years old diesel and petrol vehicle owners. Chief Justice B. R. Gawai, Justice K. Vinod Chandran and Justice N. The bench of V. Anjaria passed the order when Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appealed to the Supreme Court, appealed not to take any punitive steps.

Explain that the Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Central Government and sought answers within 4 weeks. Till then no punitive action will be taken against the owners of 10 to 15 years old diesel and petrol vehicles. The court has made this clear.

On July 26, the Delhi government had approached the Supreme Court, demanding a review of the ban on diesel vehicles more than 10 years old in the Delhi-NCR area and the ban on petrol vehicles more than 15 years old. The Delhi government argues that the existing policy is putting improper pressure on the middle class.

Delhi CM had demanded a reconsideration of the 2018 rule, which has been banned on old trains. The Supreme Court was requested to instruct the Central Government or Air Quality Management Commission (CAQM) to conduct a comprehensive scientific study.

This study will assess the real environmental impact of the ban imposed on the basis of the age of vehicles and evaluate whether the step contributes significantly to air quality improvement in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The petition said that the impact and fairness on the complete ban on all vehicles should be re -examined. The government advocates a more accurate, emission-based regulatory structure that takes into account air pollution and fitness of the vehicle instead of the age of the vehicle. The Delhi government told the apex court that BS-6 vehicles spread much less pollution than BS-4 vehicles.
