Hyderabad: In a tragic mishap, three workers from Odisha were killed after being run over by a speeding on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) near Keesara in Hyderabad.
The deceased migrant labourers have been identified as C Mohan, Jairam and Narayana, all aged between 25 and 32 years.
As per police sources, the workers were part of a group employed by a private contractor to plant saplings along the crash barriers on ORR as part of beautification work.
After having lunch in the afternoon, the workers were walking along the left corner to reach the nearby ORR exit. As they reached ORR exit, the truck hit them from behind. The driver of the truck appeared to have dozed off, causing the vehicle to veer to the extreme left and run over the workers, killing them on the spot, a police official said.
After hitting the victims, the truck rammed into a crash barrier before it fell on the other side.
The workers had come to the city on Sunday in search of work, and the accident occurred the very next day, police said.
The driver, S Ganesh, a native of Gajuwaka in Andhra Pradesh, was taken into custody and a test showed that he was not driving under the influence of liquor.
