Rajasthan’s 74 lakh farmers are set to receive a major financial boost as the state government prepares to increase the annual payout under the Chief Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has announced that instead of the current ₹9,000, eligible farmers will soon receive ₹12,000 per year, combining both the central and state government benefits.
The announcement came alongside the transfer of ₹3,900 crore into the bank accounts of farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for Rabi crop loss claims.
Combined Benefit of PM and CM Schemes
Currently, farmers in Rajasthan receive two types of financial assistance:
-
PM Kisan Samman Nidhi – The Central Government provides ₹6,000 per year, released in three instalments of ₹2,000 each.
-
CM Kisan Samman Nidhi – The Rajasthan Government offers an additional ₹3,000 annually, paid in three instalments.
With the proposed increase of ₹3,000 in the state scheme, the total annual benefit will rise to ₹12,000—₹6,000 from the Centre and ₹6,000 from the state government.
Following Madhya Pradesh’s Example
Madhya Pradesh farmers already enjoy an annual benefit of ₹12,000, with the state contributing an extra ₹6,000 alongside the central PM Kisan scheme. Rajasthan is now gearing up to match this model, potentially doubling the financial relief for its farming community.
Understanding the CM Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme
The CM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme was launched to provide additional economic support to farmers already covered under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. The eligibility criteria for both schemes are identical—any farmer whose name is registered in the PM Kisan database automatically qualifies for the state scheme.
The amount is transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts in three equal instalments, mirroring the PM Kisan disbursement schedule. If the increase is implemented, each instalment from the state government will be doubled, significantly improving cash flow for farmers.
PM Fasal Bima Yojana Payments Also Released
In addition to the CM Kisan Samman Nidhi announcement, the Central Government has credited around ₹3,900 crore into the accounts of 35 lakh farmers in Rajasthan as part of crop loss compensation under the PM Fasal Bima Yojana.
Farmers who haven’t yet received their payment need not worry—another ₹8,000 crore instalment is expected to be disbursed soon. This is part of the government’s commitment to ensure timely compensation for crop losses due to natural calamities and adverse weather conditions.
Boost to Rural Economy
The enhanced annual payment is expected to provide significant relief to farmers grappling with rising input costs and unpredictable weather patterns. It is also likely to boost the rural economy by increasing disposable income in agricultural households.
Experts believe that such direct cash transfers not only help farmers meet immediate needs like seeds, fertilizers, and equipment repairs but also reduce dependence on high-interest loans from informal sources.
Final Implementation Awaited
While the Chief Minister has made the announcement, the formal implementation of the increased amount is expected soon, following necessary budgetary approvals and administrative procedures. Once in effect, the move will put Rajasthan’s farmers on par with their counterparts in Madhya Pradesh in terms of annual financial assistance.
For now, farmers in the state have reason to look forward to a “double happiness”—additional income from the CM Kisan Samman Nidhi enhancement and compensation payouts under the PM Fasal Bima Yojana.
