PTC Web Desk: In a sharp rebuttal to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent warning to India over the Indus Waters Treaty, AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi advised the Pakistani leader “not to talk such nonsense,” reminding him that New Delhi possesses the BrahMos missile system.

India had suspended the Indus Waters Treaty on April 23 as part of punitive measures following a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam a day earlier, which claimed 26 lives. The treaty suspension drew strong reactions from Islamabad, with Sharif stating at a ceremony in the Pakistani capital: “If you threaten to stop our water, remember you cannot take away even a single drop from Pakistan. If you attempt such a move, you will again be taught a lesson that will make you hold your ears.”

Pakistan has long maintained that any attempt to block water flow under the treaty would be considered an act of war.

Owaisi, who had earlier condemned similar threats from Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir, stressed that such language was “unacceptable” and urged the Modi government to respond politically, not merely through a Ministry of External Affairs statement. He also called for India to lodge a formal protest with the US, noting that Munir’s remarks were made on American soil.

Meanwhile, BJP leader and actor Mithun Chakraborty also issued a stern warning in response to Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s criticism of India’s water projects. Bhutto alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives on the Indus river system posed a “direct threat” to Pakistan’s water security, particularly impacting Sindh’s history, culture, and civilisation. Reacting to this, Chakraborty said, “If such statements continue and we lose our patience, then BrahMos missiles will be launched one after another.”
