State Bank of India (SBI) has given a big blow to its customers. Now the customers of the bank will have to pay a fee on online IMPS transfer from 15 August 2025, which was completely free. IMPS is an instant money payment service is a real-time fund transfer system, with the help of which any person can transfer money immediately. This service is available for full 24 hours and 365 days.

A maximum of ₹ 5 lakh can be transferred through IMPS. Explain that the change made by SBI will only apply to online transactions and some slab will add minor fees. However, these fees will not be levied on some accounts. Let's know how much fee has been imposed on which slab by the bank.

How much will be charged online IMPS transactions?

If you impose online through online medium like internet banking, mobile banking or UPI, then you will now have to pay a fee. These charge are as follows - there will be no fee of up to ₹ 25,000. ₹ 25,001 to ₹ 1 lakh will be charged with ₹ 2 + GST. 1 lakh to 2 lakh rupees will be charged with ₹ 6 + GST. At the same time, ₹ 10 + GST will be charged from 2 lakh rupees to ₹ 5 lakh. Earlier there was no fee on all these transactions, but now every slab will have to pay some money.

Relief to salaried customers

SBI customers will get relief from this fee which are salary of a government or private institution and they have special Salary Package Account. These include accounts like DSP, CGSP, PSP, RSP, CSP, SGSP, ICGSP, and SUSP, which will still not levy the IMPS fee.

No change when imposed from branch

If you go to SBI branch and get it done, then there will be a fee as before. There has been no change in it. The fee on IMPS transactions made from the branch can start from ₹ 2 to ₹ 20 + GST, which depends on the amount of transfer.

What is the situation in other banks?

Canara Bank has no fee from ₹ 1,000, while transactions ranging from ₹ 1,000 to ₹ 5 lakh are charged from ₹ 3 to ₹ 20 + GST. There will be no charge in PNB (Punjab National Bank) up to ₹ 1,000. There is a charge of ₹ 5 to ₹ 10 + GST on online transactions above ₹ 1,001, while this charge is slightly higher by transaction from the branch.

What is IMPS charge?

The IMPS charge is the amount that the bank takes from you for the facility in which it transfers your money to another person's account immediately. This fee can vary according to your transferred amount. The bank usually takes this charge in exchange for maintaining digital service, network expenses, and processing of transactions.
