Synopsis

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation, in two separate orders issued on Wednesday, simplified the claim settlement process for minors while also simplifying the procedure for correction of name, gender and date of birth in Aadhaar, in case of its mismatch with universal account number (UAN).

In yet another initiative to simplify processes and enhance the ease of living for its 70 million subscribers, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has fast-tracked the process of claim settlements to minor in case of a death of EPFO beneficiaries while also enabling the provision of a correction in Aadhaar through through the existing joint declaration facility.

“With a view to simplify the process and also to ensure speedy settlement to the minor children, it is hereby directed that no separate guardianship certificate be insisted if the settlement are being credited to the bank accounts of the minor children,” EPFO said in an office order on Wednesday.

“Accordingly, the claimants be suitably guided to open individual bank accounts in the name of the minor children for crediting the settlement proceeds as well as pension due to them,” it added.

In a separate office order related to seeding and verification of Aadhaar , the EPFO allowed employers to file the request for rectification in the name, gender and date of birth in Aahaar, in case of a mismatch between UAN as well as Aadhaar, through the joint declaration functionality.

“For correction of Aadhaar, when a wrong Aadhaar has been erroneously linked with the UAN, the employer can now enter the correct Aadhaar on online joint declaration (JD) functionality and forward it to the concerned regional office for approval,” it said.

“In case the employer is not available or the establishment is closed, the member can still file a physical JD duly attested to the public relations officer in the concerned regional office,” it said, adding that all such cases will have to be approved by the additional provident fund commissioner after due verification.
