1- Actually the color of the Red Fort was not red. It was made of limestone and white stone. When the white color started descending, it was painted red in the British period.

2- The real name of the Red Fort was Kila-e-Mubarak. It means "Blessed Fort".

3- The fort was designed by Ustad Ahmed Lahori. He also designed the Taj Mahal.

4- The construction of the Red Fort started on 13 May 1638. Under the supervision of Shah Jahan, it was completed on 6 April 1648.

The fort was looted during the attack of Nadir Shah in 5- 1739. The treasure like the Mayur throne was looted. The Red Fort was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007 due to its cultural and historical significance.

6- Kohinoor diamond was once kept in Diwan-e-Khas of the Red Fort. This fort was the main residence of the Mughal rulers.

7- The Red Fort is made in octagonal shape. It is spread over 256 acres. The walls of the fort are made of red sandstone. The height is 75 feet.

8- Rang Mahal is inside the Red Fort. It had the wives of the king and their maid. Apart from the king, other men were not allowed inside.

9- Aurangzeb built Moti Masjid (Pearl Masjid) in the king's private room inside the fort.

10- The fort has two main gates. Delhi Gate and Lahore Gate. Delhi Gate opens towards Lahore (now in Pakistan). At this gate, the Prime Minister of India hoists the flag on Independence Day.
