Flag hoisting at Red Fort on August 15

India gained independence from British rule on 15 August 1947. That historic morning, the country’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the tricolor from the ramparts of the Red Fort and addressed India as an independent nation. Since then, every year the Prime Minister hoists the flag at the Red Fort on Independence Day.

Flag hoisting means pulling the tricolor from the bottom to the top. It is a symbol of freedom and pride of the country. On this day, the Prime Minister addresses the country and enthusiasts the hearts of the countrymen.

Tricolor hoisted on 26 January

The Constitution of India came into force on 26 January 1950. On this day, the post of President came into existence. This day is celebrated as Republic Day. On this occasion, the President hoists the tricolor as the constitutional head of the country.

On Republic Day, the tricolor is already tied at height. It is opened and waved. On this day, the ceremony is organized on the path of duty and it becomes a symbol of democratic strength of the country.
