
Honoring Atal Bihari Vajpayee
On the seventh death anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute on Saturday, emphasizing that Vajpayee will continue to inspire efforts towards a developed and self-reliant India.
In a post on ‘X’, Modi stated, “On behalf of all citizens, I respectfully pay homage to former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his death anniversary. His dedication and service towards the comprehensive development of the nation serve as an inspiration for everyone in the pursuit of a developed and self-reliant India.”
Alongside President Droupadi Murmu, Union Ministers, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Modi and several dignitaries gathered at Vajpayee's memorial, ‘Sadiv Atal’, to pay their respects.
Vajpayee was one of the founders of the Bharatiya Janata Party and served as Prime Minister three times. His first term in 1996 lasted only 13 days, followed by a 13-month term starting in 1998. He returned to the office for a third time in 1999, becoming the first non-Congress leader to complete a full term as Prime Minister. He is credited with advancing economic reforms that paved the way for rapid development in the country.
