Waterparks and mega-slides are not the reason why the majority of cruise passengers book their getaway, according to a recent survey.
Travel agent, cruise.co.uk asked 1,200 guests what was the deciding factor in them boarding their latest cruise, and, although the waterslides were a big attraction, it didn't come out on top.
A cruise holiday can offer an abundance of immersive activities as thousands of guests traverse their floating city before docking at each port.
Modern vessels, such as the Royal Caribbean International's Star of the Seas, which measures a whopping 1,198 feet in length, or Princess Cruises' $1.1bn Disney Destiny, both of which will set sail for the first time this year, are packed with immersive areas, bars and restaurants to guarantee a fun-filled stay.
Of the 1,200 guests quizzed by cruise.co.uk, just 10 per cent cited waterparks as the reason for their stay, while 16 per cent said they prioritised fresh entertainment and shows.
Perhaps surprisingly, the most popular answer suggested people valued their sleep after a long day on the cruise more than the activities themselves.
Upgraded accommodation was selected by 28 per cent of respondents as the main thing they worry about when booking a cruise.
A spacious ship with plenty of expanded public areas was second-highest on the list, named by a quarter of the 1,200 who took part in the survey.
"It's clear that travellers are drawn to the added comfort and upgraded experiences that newer ships can bring," explained Tony Andrews, managing director of cruise.co.uk.

"Extra space, enhanced cabins and improved facilities evidently make a difference when passengers are planning a holiday at sea.
"Loyalty to cruise lines doesn't necessarily dictate where customers will book. People want the best value and experience for their money, and they're open to shopping around to get it."
It appears brand loyalty isn't of concern to many passengers either, with just 15 per cent of surveyees stating they would stick exclusively to their favourite cruise line if they were to sail with a newer ship.
In fact, 90 per cent of participants said they were not likely to book a cruise simply because it was on the latest ship.
