A beautiful city on the Mediterranean has been named Europe's safest city.
An index has evaluated cities based on crime rates currently and in the past five years. Both indicators were combined for an overall safetyscore, with the lowest number indicating the lowest level of crime and, therefore, the safest destination. Topping the list was Dubrovnik in southern Croatia. The city has minimal crime levels and a low crime rate increase, earning it an overall score of 44.14. With an 8.76 score from Numbeo for its crime level, indicating a 'very low' amount, and a 'low' 35.38 for crime increasing in the past five years, the Croatian city is the safest in Europe. This UNESCO World Heritage gem, famously known as the 'Pearl of the Adriatic,' allows visitors to walk through medieval streets and along pristine city walls safely.

It's known for its distinctive Old Town, encircled with massive stone walls completed in the 16th century. Its well-preserved buildings range from baroque St. Blaise Church to Renaissance Sponza Palace and Gothic Rector's Palace, now a museum.
The pedestrianised high street, Stradun (or Placa), is paved with limestone and lined with shops and restaurants. Many of the historic buildings and monuments in Dubrovnik are situated along the street, meaning it is a popular esplanade for tourists.
European tour operator Riviera Travel created the Safest Destinations Index, which reveals Europe's safest cities.
Dubrovnik is also a popular spot for TV and film. Game of Thrones used Dubrovnik as a filming location, representing the cities of King's Landing and Qarth.
Parts of Star Wars: The Last Jedi were filmed in Dubrovnik in March 2016, in which the city was used as the setting for the casino city of Canto Bight.
Estonia's capital follows behind with 55.81. Thanks to its 'very low' and 'low' crime levels and crime rate increase in the past five years, 18.96 and 36.85, respectively, Tallinn offers visitors one of Northern Europe's most secure urban experiences.
Warsaw completes the top three, scoring 60.19. The Polish capital's 'moderate' crime increase in the past five years (40.74) and 'very low' crime level (19.45) make it a safe destination.
