Thane: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, along with actors Govinda and Sharad Kelkar, attended the Anand Dighe Dahi Handi celebrations held on Saturday in Thane. The event, organised by the Tembi Naka Mitra Mandal, attracted large crowds and featured several high-profile attendees, including popular film and television personalities.

A video from the event that surfaced online shows the enthusiastic gathering of both the public and special guests, capturing the festive atmosphere and traditional Govinda pyramid formations.

One Dead, 30 Injured During Dahi Handi Celebrations

In other news related to the Dahi Handi celebration in Mumbai, the city witnessed a tragic turn during Dahi Handi festivities on Saturday, when a 32-year-old participant from the Bal Govinda Pathak in Maharashtra Nagar, Mankhurd, lost his life in an unfortunate accident.

Details of the Incident

The mishap occurred around 3 pm and was later confirmed by Shatabdi Hospital in Govandi. The deceased, identified as Jagmohan Shivkiran Chaudhari, had been tying the Dahi Handi rope from the first floor of a ground-plus-one (G+1) structure. In the process, he reportedly slipped and became trapped inside the grill of the house. His family members immediately rushed him to Shatabdi Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Injuries Reported Across the City

Besides this fatal incident, several other participants sustained injuries throughout Mumbai during Dahi Handi activities. As of 3 pm, hospitals across the city had recorded a total of 30 injury cases linked to the celebrations.

Cooper Hospital received the highest number of cases, with 18 injured Govindas. Out of these, 12 were still undergoing treatment while six had been discharged. At Sion Hospital, six individuals were admitted, three were under medical care, while the other three had been discharged after receiving primary treatment. Nair Hospital also reported six cases, with one patient still admitted and five discharged.
