India's Stance on US-Russia Summit
On Saturday, India expressed its approval of the recent discussions between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, emphasizing the global desire for a swift resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The Ministry of External Affairs commended the advancements made during the Alaska summit, stating, “Their leadership in the pursuit of peace is highly commendable.”
According to the foreign ministry, the path forward lies in dialogue and diplomatic efforts.
Trump remarked that his meeting with Putin was productive, as was a subsequent phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
He noted that all parties agreed that the most effective way to conclude the devastating war between Russia and Ukraine is through a Peace Agreement, rather than a temporary Ceasefire Agreement, which often fails to hold.
Trump also mentioned that Zelenskyy is scheduled to visit the White House on Monday afternoon, and if discussions proceed positively, a meeting with President Putin will be arranged.
The conflict began when Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, marking the most severe conflict in Europe since World War II. Moscow describes its actions as a necessary military operation to prevent Ukraine from being a base for Western aggression, while Ukraine and its allies view it as an imperialistic war of occupation.
