A popular Indian restaurant has been named the best in England, and it's in one of Britain's most beautiful cities. The English Curry Awards 2025, an annual ceremony organised by Oceanic Awards that recognises "the finest talents in the English curry industry", took place in Birmingham this week.

The awards, which were marking their 14th year, picked a standout curry restaurant for each English region, a winner for England overall, and the best eateries in major cities as well as other awards. Among the other categories was the Indian Restaurant of the Year, which was won by Bombay Spice in York.

The Indian and Bangladeshi Restaurant has a large menu including a "selection of special duck and fish dishes", according to the restaurant's website.

It has an a la carte, early dining, lunch, and dessert menu with mains including a variety of

Karahi, Tandoori, Shashlick, and biryani dishes, and sides with vegetables.

It has a number of deals according to the menus on its website, including two course meals on its early dining menu for £18.95, with three courses for £21.95. The deal is available Sunday to Thursday from 5pm to 6.30pm.

There's also a lunch special from 12pm to 3pm on Saturday, allowing you to get any main course with any rice and naan bread for £14.95 per person.

The restaurant has a "very good" 4.5 score on TripAdvisor with fans praising its "excellent food".

One reviewer on the site wrote: "What a gem of a restaurant. We chose from the early bird evening menu and were really impressed by the quality of the food and service. Definitely the best curry I've had in months. Highly recommend."

A second added: "Can see why it is award winning. It is the best curry house in York. We had the mango and coconut salmon curry and we got 2 big pieces of salmon each.

"Also chicken madras, vegetable rice, naan breads, mushroom rice, poppadoms and pickle tray. Excellent food and service."

A third said: "Lovely food, the flavours where brilliant. The staff are very friendly and helpful to explain anything on the menu."
