PTC News Delhi: Shortly after the NDA government announced its candidate for Vice President, opposition bloc INDIA is likely to pick the DMK's Rajya Sabha MP Tiruchi Siva as its veep candidate.
The Rajya Sabha MP from Tamil Nadu has been pitted against Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan, who is considered as BJP's one of the tallest leaders in Tamil Nadu.
The unexpected Vice-Presidential election was triggered by Jagdeep Dhankhar’s sudden resignation, officially attributed to health issues, though insiders later suggested that disagreements with the BJP may have compelled the senior Jat leader to step down prematurely.
According to sources, the Opposition’s choice of Mr. Siva as its nominee could provide an advantage in managing regional political dynamics. His Tamil Nadu roots would serve as a counter to the NDA’s outreach in the South and could help garner backing from southern parties if he emerges as the Opposition’s candidate. Crucially, this move would ensure the DMK’s unhesitant support, as they would readily back one of their own.
