News of a potential Weapons prequel centered around the antagonistic Gladys (played by Amy Madigan) has popped up recently, and Madigan herself recently gave an update on it.
What did Amy Madigan say about a Weapons prequel?
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview, Madigan was asked about the possibility of a sequel. While Madigan said she loves the character, she knows not to put the horse before the cart in any talks of what might happen in Hollywood.
“It’s not that I discount it, but in this business, nothing’s real till it’s real,” said Madigan. “I just had such a great time working with Zach and being inside that brain of his. That’s really the gift of how the movie came out. The other stuff has to do with all sorts of conversations that I would never be privy in and business things like that. But, you know, I love Gladys, so I’ll leave it at that.”
Madigan plays the mysterious Gladys, an eccentric and, at times, terrifying character that appears in Cregger’s film. Cregger’s next movie is set to his highly anticipated Resident Evil movie, and it’s unclear what his film after that will be.
Weapons is written and directed by Cregger, who is also serving as the producer. Additional cast members include Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan. It is produced by Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, J.D. Lifshitz, and Raphael Margules, with Michelle Morrissey and Josh Brolin set as executive producers.
Weapons is available to watch in theaters now.
