A big problem has arisen for the students dreaming of medical studies in West Bengal. The state government has halted the NEET UG 2025 counseling indefinitely. With this decision, the admission process for MBBS and BDS courses has come to a complete halt. More than 11 thousand students who were waiting for the counseling to start for a long time are now in a state of confusion.

Why was the counseling stopped?

According to reports, the West Bengal government has taken this big step due to questions being raised regarding transparency and seat sharing in the medical admission process. It is being told that some technical and administrative issues related to counseling have come up, without resolving which the government is not in a mood to move forward. However, the full reasons behind this have not been officially clarified, which has further increased the anxiety among students and parents.

Students' problems increased

Thousands of students are worried due to the postponement of counseling. These students, who have worked hard for years to prepare for medical studies, now do not know when and how they will get admission. There are many students who have already started looking for options in other states or private colleges. But not everyone has this facility or financial capability, so the state's counseling is their only support.

Effect on career

The delay in studying professional degrees like MBBS and BDS directly affects the career of the students. The entire study schedule gets spoiled when admission is late. This not only wastes the time of the students, but also affects the new academic session of medical colleges. Students are now worried that their one year may get wasted due to this delay.

Students can go to court

The matter can now also get stuck in legal complications. Many students and parents have indicated that if the government does not find a solution soon, they can knock the door of the High Court. Earlier also, disputes regarding the medical admission process have reached the court in many states. Students demand that the government should start counseling in a transparent manner as soon as possible so that their future is secure.

Impact at national level

If counseling stops in West Bengal, its effect can also be seen at the national level. Actually, the seats of All India Quota (AIQ) and State Quota are coordinated with each other. If there is a delay in state counseling, then some seats of AIQ will also not be finalized on time. This can affect the entire schedule of medical admission across the country.

Anger of parents

Along with the students, parents are also angry with this decision of the government. They say that the government cannot back out of its responsibility by putting the future of children at stake. Parents have warned that if no concrete steps are taken soon, they will also protest on a large scale.
