South Africa's young batting sensation Dewald Brevis ensured his ODI debut would be unforgettable. Facing Australia in the first ODI of the three-match series at Cazaly's Stadium, Cairns, on Tuesday, August 19, Brevis made a stunning entry-smashing the very first ball off Travis Head he faced for a towering six.
With a crisp back-foot punch straight down the ground, the ball sailed over long-on, announcing his arrival in style.
But it was Head who cut short his entertaining entry in the 50-over format. On just his second ball, Brevis went for another big one. This time Head tossed it up outside off, tempting Brevis to attempt another ambitious shot. Brevis swung hard, but only managed to connect with the toe end of the bat.
The ball hung in the air and fell just short of clearing the rope. Alex Carey, positioned at long-on, kept his calm and pouched it safely. From six to out in the space of two deliveries, Brevis' ODI debut was over almost as quickly as it began.
