High Blood Pressure: High blood pressure is still one of the world’s biggest health problems, affecting millions of people. The American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology have issued new guidelines to deal with high blood pressure for the first time since 2017. These include strict advice to reduce the intake of alcohol and salt (sodium). If you change your habits from now on, you can avoid dangers such as heart disease, kidney problem, diabetes and even amnesia (dementia). Let us know what these new rules say and how you can improve your health.
What is special in new rules?
After focusing on long -term research and prevention, new standards of high blood pressure have come up. Earlier doctors used to start treating patients whose blood pressure was 140/90 mm HG or more. But now new guidelines say that if your blood pressure is between 130–139 (upper) or 80–89 (lower), it will be considered as Stage 1 High BP. Such people are being advised to change their habits immediately. This includes correct food, light exercise and reducing alcohol intake. These small changes can protect against major diseases in future.
Why is alcohol enemies of blood pressure?
Excessive consumption of alcohol has been considered a major cause of high blood pressure for a long time. In the new guidelines, alcohol has been strictly strict. Research suggests that continuous alcohol increases both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. People who leave alcohol completely have the lowest risk. At the same time, people who reduce the amount of alcohol by 50%, their health is clearly improved. The aim of these rules is to reduce the dangers of alcohol, whether less or less.
Reduce salt, groomed health
Sodium is a major cause of high blood pressure. Most people think that adding too much salt in food is the problem, but actually more sodium goes into our body than packaged food and restaurant. The new guidelines recommend that read the food label carefully and choose potassium -containing salt options. Experts say that less than 2,300 mg of sodium should be taken every day, and 1,500 mg is the most ideal. It is necessary to adopt a heart-healthy diet such as Dash diet, including vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean proteins, legumes and low-fat dairy products.
How much effect the lifestyle and environment?
There are not only food and drink, but also many other reasons behind increasing blood pressure. Age, the history of the disease in the family (genes), obesity, lack of proper use of insulin, less sleep and more stress are also responsible for this. Apart from this, blood pressure can also be affected by air pollution and contact with heavy metals. New rules say that only diet is not enough to control blood pressure. This requires a complete package-good food, regular exercise, handling stress and doctor’s advice or medicines when needed.
