The Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has made some important changes. After which, it will be easier for users to link Aadhaar to their Universal Account Number (UAN) and change their details. The new rules aim to speed up Provident Fund services, reduce paperwork, and ensure timely payment.

Most importantly, now there will be no need to provide a guardianship certificate to the minor children of deceased members. Also, EPFO will help in opening their account. So that the money of the deceased members can be transferred directly to the accounts of minor children. Let us also tell you what kind of changes have been made in the rules by EPFO.

If the details match, then link Aadhaar-UAN directly.

Easy process: If your name, gender, and date of birth match in Aadhaar and UAN records, then you can now directly contact your employer.

Employer Portal: The employer can then complete Aadhaar seeding through the KYC function on the Employer Portal.

No additional approval required: This process no longer requires additional approval from the EPFO.

Simplified Joint Declaration on Mismatch Details
The Joint Declaration (JD) system has also been simplified in case Aadhaar and UAN details do not match or Aadhaar is wrongly linked.

How to Correct Online: Employers can now submit JD requests online to correct details such as name, gender, or date of birth. This will also apply to cases where a wrong Aadhaar number has been linked.

Physical Submission: If a company is closed or the employer is not available, the member can submit the JD form physically. This form, verified by authorized officials, can be submitted at the Public Relations Officer (PRO) counter, who will upload it for processing after verification.

However, it is important to note that changes made in already verified Aadhaar details will not be approved.

Timely payment to minor beneficiaries
No need for a guardianship certificate: Minor beneficiaries have also been given a big relief. EPFO now does not require a guardianship certificate for the settlement of claims of minor children of the deceased member.

Direct bank deposit: Both lump sum settlement and pension amount can be deposited directly into the child's bank account.

PRO assistance: To streamline the process, EPFO officials have been instructed to help claimants open accounts for minors to ensure timely and hassle-free payments.

How to link Aadhaar with UAN online?

Any user can easily link their Aadhaar with UAN using the government's platform, UMANG mobile app.

First, open the UMANG app and log in using your MPIN or OTP.
Go to the “Services” tab and select the “EPFO” option.

Under the EPFO option, select “e-KYC Services”.

Select the “Aadhaar Seeding” option.

Enter your UAN and then enter the OTP sent to the registered mobile number.

Enter your Aadhaar details and verify the OTP sent to the mobile number and email linked with Aadhaar.

Once the verification process is complete and successful, your Aadhaar will be linked to UAN.

While the initial linking can happen in a few minutes, the actual verification and approval by the authorities can take up to 15 days. Usually, this process takes around 3-5 days to complete.
