India announce squad for ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025: Harmanpreet Kaur to lead, star player makes comeback

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur along with head coach Amol Muzumdar announced the a 15-member squad for ICC Womens World Cup. The team will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur along with her deputy Smriti Mandhana. Harmanpreet will be playing her maiden ODI World Cup as the womens team captain. Shafali Verma left out of Indias ICC Womens World Cup squad Indias Women team star opener Shafali Verma was left out of the 15-member squad. Even though she recently scored fifty runs and more for India A against Australia A the selectors werent impressed. Shafali was unable to secure a spot in the senior squad despite finishing the Senior Womens One-Day Trophy as the top run scorer with 527 runs at an average of 75.29 and a strike-rate of 152.31 which included two hundreds and two fifties. Earlier Harmanpreet stated that Shafali needed to be ‘in the zone’ to make her way back into the senior setup. Renuka Singh Thakur will lead the bowling attack The bowling attack will be led by Renuka Singh Thakur. Renuka hasnt played for the national team since missing the tri-series in Sri Lanka due to a foot injury she sustained after the Womens Premier League. In September she will play her first ODI match against Australia after recovering from the injury Harleen Deol and Pratika Rawal were selected because of their recent outstanding performances. Despite being named in the World Cup squad pace bowling all-rounder Amanjot Kaur was rested against Australia. Kranti Gaud and Sree Charani two newcomers who made an impression in recent English series were also picked by the selectors. Yastika Bhatia who missed out on the World Cup squad has been included in the team for the Australia series which serves as preparation for the global tournament beginning at home on September 30. The final match will take place in Delhi on September 20. On September 30 India will start their Womens World Cup campaign.
