Bihar Weather: Monsoon is once again gaining strength in Bihar and in such a situation, now the Meteorological Department has issued an alert in the entire state for August 20 and 21. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, on August 20, half of Bihar will have an orange alert and the other half will have a yellow alert, while on August 21, a yellow alert will be applicable in the entire state.
Heavy rain warnings have been issued especially in districts like Kishanganj, Purnia, Bhagalpur, Banka, Supaul, Araria and Katihar. During this period, there is also a possibility of strong winds, thunderstorms and lightning, for which people have been appealed to be cautious.
According to the Meteorological Department, the intensity of rain will increase due to monsoon trough and cyclonic movement. Its effect will be most visible especially in the districts of northern and eastern Bihar. On August 20, there is a danger of flood and waterlogging with heavy rains in Kishanganj, Purnia, Bhagalpur and Banka. At the same time, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia and Katihar on August 21. The water level of rivers may rise in these districts. During this time, farmers have been advised not to work in the fields and not to stay in the open because incidents of lightning have been proving fatal in Bihar.
Lack of rain has been a major concern in many districts of Bihar this monsoon season. So far, only 498.9 mm of rain has been recorded which is 25% less than the normal 666.9 mm. Sitamarhi has seen a 56% deficit, Supaul and Saharsa 54% and districts like Gopalganj, Muzaffarpur, West Champaran have seen a deficit of more than 40%. This deficit has affected agriculture and water availability and many areas are facing the threat of drought. However, the rain on August 20-21 may reduce this deficit to some extent but heavy rains will also increase the risk of floods.
Here in Patna, it will be cloudy on August 20 and light to moderate rain may occur in some areas. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 31-33 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 26-27 degrees. People are already troubled by the humid heat and in such a situation, there is a possibility of getting some relief from the rain. The Meteorological Department has asked people to be cautious. Emergency services and disaster management teams are on high alert and residents have also been advised to keep an eye on official updates.
