Delhi: Former Indian captain Krishna Srikanth has objected to the inclusion of Shubman Gill for the Asia Cup 2025 in Team India. He believes that it would not be prudent for Gill to include suddenly in the T20 team.

T20 I not played for a long time

Gill played the last T20 International match for India in July 2024 against Sri Lanka. Since then, his focus has been only on ODI and Test format. Despite this, there were speculations that they could find a place in the team for the Asia Cup 2025.

Srikanth raised sharp questions

Srikanth said on his YouTube channel, “If Shubman Gill had been the T20 captain of the team, he was set to play. Then neither Sai Sudarshan, nor Yashasvi Jaiswal nor Vaibhav Suryavanshi. But Gill was not even in T20 World Cup 2024. In such a situation, where did he suddenly come from the team?”

He further said, “He was not even a part of the T20 series against England. Yes, he has done well recently, but it is not the right way to include it in the team only on this basis.”

Gill’s performance in IPL 2025 was excellent

Playing for Gujarat Titans, Gill batted tremendously in IPL 2025. He scored 650 runs in 15 matches and was the fourth highest run batsman of the tournament. His average was 50.00 and he also scored six half -centuries. However, there are many good openers present in the Indian team at this time and in such a situation, Gill is finding a little difficult to get a chance.

Group and schedule of India

India is placed in Group A in the Asia Cup 2025. He is accompanied by teams from Pakistan, UAE and Oman in this group. India will start its campaign against UAE on 10 September. After this, the much awaited match of India-Pakistan will be played on 14 September. The last match of the group stage will be against Oman on 19 September.
