
Incident During Public Hearing
The Delhi unit of the BJP has reported an attack on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a public hearing event. On Wednesday, while at her official residence in Civil Lines, the Chief Minister was allegedly assaulted by a 35-year-old man who approached her with some documents before the incident occurred. The assailant reportedly pulled her hair and slapped her. Although Rekha Gupta did not sustain any injuries, she is said to be in shock following the incident. The Delhi police have apprehended the attacker, and an investigation is currently underway.
Details of the Assault
According to police reports, the assault took place during the public hearing at the Chief Minister's residence. The assailant, described as being around 30 years old, suddenly struck Rekha Gupta after presenting her with papers. He was quickly taken into custody by law enforcement. The BJP later confirmed the incident, with party spokesperson Praveen Shankar stating that the Chief Minister was deliberately targeted during the hearing.
Reactions to the Attack
Virendra Sachdeva, the president of the Delhi BJP, strongly condemned the attack on Gupta. Meanwhile, Delhi Congress president Devendra Yadav also denounced the incident, labeling it unfortunate. In a conversation with a news agency, he raised concerns about the law and order situation in Delhi, questioning how an ordinary citizen could feel safe if the Chief Minister is not secure. Yadav emphasized that the Chief Minister leads the entire city, and such incidents highlight serious issues regarding women's safety.
