New Delhi: Amid outrage across the nation over BCCI’s stance of allowing the Indian team to play Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray has written to the centre, urging the sports ministry’s intervention in the matter. Thackeray has urged Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to intervene and stop the BCCI from letting the Indian cricket team play against Pakistan in the continental tournament.

The Asia Cup 2025 is set to be played in the UAE from September 09 to September 28. India is scheduled to take on Pakistan in their group-stage match in Dubai on September 14. Ever since the clash was confirmed by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) last month, the BCCI and the Indian government have been facing massive backlash over the controversial clash.

On Wednesday, Thackeray wrote to Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, slamming the BCCI for sending the Indian team to play Pakistan in the Asia Cup, months after the Pahalgam terror attack. In his letter, Thackeray wrote how India has constantly faced terrorist attacks from terror outfits based in Pakistan and reminded the Sports Minister of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent statement that blood and water cannot flow together.

He questioned whether BCCI was above national interest and the sacrifice of the jawans of the Indian army, while slamming the Indian cricket board for prioritising money over the country’s interest. Calling it a ‘shameful act’ from the BCCI, Thackeray also highlighted how Pakistan’s hockey team recently pulled out Asia Cup men’s hockey 2025 in India, citing security concerns.

“Blood and Water cannot flow together, but for @BCCI blood and revenue can flow together. I have written to Union Minister Shri Mansukh Mandaviya ji, asking for the Union Government’s intervention in BCCI shameful act of sending a team that will play cricket with Pakistan,” Thackeray wrote in his tweet with a copy of his letter to the Sports Minister.
