Google's AI Overview feature, which drew attention with its strange suggestions in its early days, is now causing a serious threat. Recently, a report by 'Digital Trends' has revealed that this AI tool is giving users the numbers of scammers instead of the real customer service numbers of companies.

AI Overview giving scammers' numbers
This new problem has shocked many users. Businessman Alex Rivlin shared his experience on Facebook and said that he was searching for the customer service number of Royal Caribbean. Google's AI Overview gave him a fake number. After calling, he got trapped in the trap of scammers. Rivlin said that he considers himself very cautious and often avoids clicking on links or sharing personal information over the phone, but still, he got caught in this trap. However, he escaped the scam at the last moment, but by then, he had given his credit card information.

Many cases have come before
This is not the only incident. A few months ago, a user on Reddit 'Stimy3901' reported that while looking for a way to correct the wrong name in Southwest Airlines, AI Overview gave him a fake number. On calling that number, scammers were demanding hundreds of dollars to change the name. Another Reddit user, 'ScotiaMinotia', also shared a similar experience, where he got a fake number while searching for the number of British Airways.

Do not trust blindly.

These incidents show that Google's AI Overview, which was brought to make information easier, is now proving to be a dangerous tool. It is sending users directly to scammers. This proves that the results given by AI should not be trusted blindly. Fake customer care pages of many well-known companies have been created on the Internet, to which people fall prey, knowingly or unknowingly.

In such a situation, you should always seek help from the customer care number or service number given on the company's official website or user manual. Keep in mind to never share personal information like your account number, credit-debit card number, PIN or password with the customer care agent.
