
New Delhi. The central government introduced the ‘Online Gaming Promotion and Regulation Bill’, 2025 ‘(Online Gaming Promotion and Regulation Bill, 2025) on Wednesday, August 20 on online gaming. The purpose of this new law is to make the world of online gaming safe, especially to curb games that transact money. The most important thing is that in this law, common people playing games will not be punished.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that this law is a double purpose. On the one hand, it will promote new games and technology (innovation) in the country, on the other hand it will also ensure that common citizens, especially youth, avoid the loss of online gaming. The government believes that there has been a lot of benefit from technology, but it is also important to save the society from its misuse.

Who will get punishment and who will not?
This is the most important thing of this law. The government has made it clear that those who play online game by investing money will not be considered criminals. Instead, he will be seen as a ‘victim’. That is, if you play such a game, there will be no action on you.
Then who will be punished?
The provision of punishment is for those and companies that run and promote such games. These include:
Service Provider: That is, companies that create and run these gaming apps or websites.

Advertising: Those who promote these games on TV, internet or any other medium.
Promoter: People or influencers who promote these games.
Financial assistance: People or institutions that provide money to these gaming companies.
In violation of the rules, provision has been made for heavy fines and jail punishment against these companies and people concerned.
What kind of games will be banned?
This law is mainly to ban ‘online money games’. That is, any game in which he is expected to win money by investing money, it will come under its purview. The government aims to shut down games played like betting and gambling, which causes people to feel addicted and suffer financial losses.

However, the government will promote e-Sports and social games that are played only for entertainment or skills and which do not have the money.
