Cases of digital fraud in the country are increasing day by day. Now cyber criminals are making common people their victims through popular messaging apps like Whatsapp. In recent cases, it has been revealed that scammers are taking out a hefty amount from people’s bank accounts through ‘screen sharing’. This new method has emerged as a threat to the hard earned money of the common man.
According to experts, cyber thugs first contact the user in the name of a service or an excuse to provide technical assistance. They then seek permission to share the screen on WhatsApp, Google Meet or other video call platforms. Once the screen sharing starts, they can watch all the activities of your device live – whether you open the bank app, enter the OTP or type the password.
During this time, if the user uses their banking app or digital wallet, scammers look at the entire information on the screen and then transfer funds immediately. Many times they misuse it later by recording screen.
Avoid making these mistakes:
Do not share screen with unknown person: Even if he talks about help by telling a representative of a company, no one should share the screen on the call from the unknown number.
Never show OTP and password: No bank or official institution asks you to share screen sharing or OTP. Any such request can be fraud.
Keep an eye on application permission: Many screen sharing apps make a full grip on the device by giving themselves accessible permission.
Report on cyber helpline: If you fall prey to an online fraud, call the cyber helpline 1930 immediately or www.cybercrime.gov.in
File a complaint on.
