This figure was only 74% in 2023, ie an increase of more than 10% in two years. The report clearly shows that EV has now gradually become part of the mainstream on Indian roads.

Increased increase in trust and use

According to the report, on an average an EV owner drives about 1,600 km every month. This distance is about 40% higher than traditional petrol-engine vehicles. The direct indication of this is that people are now relying on both technology and charging infrastructure.

Electric vehicles have strengthened customers’s trust and rapidly growing charging network. EV owners run their vehicles in an average of 27 days, which is 35% more than the Ice i.e. petrol and diesel vehicles. The special thing is that now 95% of EVs are running on road networks in India. There is now a fast charger every 50 km in 91% of the national highway. States like Karnataka, Kerala and Punjab have achieved 100% coverage.

Challenges still remain intact

However the picture is not perfectly perfect. Out of 25,000 public chargers installed till February 2024, around 12,000 non-functional were found. In addition, due to different apps and payment systems, users face difficulties in charging and paying.

Growing importance of fast charging
