
Tributes Paid to Former Prime Minister
SHIMLA: On August 20, 2025, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of Himachal Pradesh paid homage to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at Sadbhawana Chowk in Chhota Shimla, commemorating his birth anniversary.
The Chief Minister urged citizens to embrace the ideals of Rajiv Gandhi, who is celebrated as the ‘architect of modern India’. He emphasized that Gandhi dedicated his life to the nation's unity and integrity, and credited him with initiating the information technology revolution that continues to benefit the youth today.
Furthermore, Sukhu highlighted Rajiv Gandhi's role as a social reformer, noting his contributions through the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments, which secured reservations for women in local governance. He acknowledged Sonia Gandhi's efforts in advancing a Bill in the Rajya Sabha to ensure 33 percent representation for women in Parliament and state assemblies, a move that will significantly empower them.
Later, the Chief Minister led an oath-taking ceremony focused on national integration and communal harmony for the officials of the Himachal Pradesh Secretariat.

In attendance were Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Congress Committee chief Pratibha Singh, and various ministers and dignitaries, all paying their respects to the legacy of Rajiv Gandhi.
