Former US Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley recently warned a warning that the relations between the US and India are on the verge of breaking up. He said that if the US wants to compete with China’s growing power, it will have to give priority to its relations with India.

In his article published in Newsweek on 20 August 2025, Haley said that America has to understand that its main goal is China. India can be an important partner to deal with China’s growing ambitions, which is strategically important for the US.

Haley’s statement came when business disputes between the US and India have increased. President Donald Trump has announced a 25% tariff to implement India due to purchasing Russian oil on India, which will be applicable from 27 August. Although Haley expressed concern over India’s Russian oil imports, he also warned that it would be a big strategic mistake for America to see India as an enemy.

Haley also said that India’s cooperation is necessary to deal with China’s increasing dominance in Asia. India can become an important ally due to strong defense relations with countries like America, America and Israel. He also suggested that the leaders of America and India should talk directly to remove mutual misconceptions, so that China does not take advantage of it.
