If you are going to file an Income Tax Return (ITR), then this news is important for you. This year, the deadline for filing ITR for the financial year 2024-25 is September 15, 2025. But it is becoming difficult to complete the work by this date. Both taxpayers and chartered accountants are worried about this. According to a news report from Money Control, the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and many tax experts have appealed to the government to extend the deadline. He says that there are many problems right now, due to which it is not easy to file returns on time.
Demand for extending the ITR filing deadline intensifies
The biggest problem is that ITR forms and utilities are released very late. Also, technical glitches on the tax portal, such as login problems, system errors, and timeouts, are happening daily. These problems are affecting the work of filing returns a lot.
There are also errors and delays in updating important documents like Form 26AS, AIS, and TIS, which is making it difficult to gather correct information. The implementation of new financial detail formats has further lengthened the work. Also, due to the festivals running from August to November, the work pressure on both tax professionals and taxpayers increases.
Challenges faced by tax professionals
Chartered accountants and tax consultants are also upset. They say that technical problems arise while uploading returns repeatedly on the portal. Many times, the data is not updated or an error occurs, making it difficult to file returns on time. These things are hampering the work of tax professionals.
Will the deadline be extended again?
In May this year, the government had extended the deadline for ITR filing from July 31 to September 15. At that time also it was said that due to changes in rules and forms, taxpayers had less time to complete the work. Now the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce has recommended extending the deadline to October 30. The government is facing increasing pressure due to this demand. Although officially the last date is September 15, there is a possibility of the deadline being extended due to technical problems and practical difficulties.
What should taxpayers do?
As far as possible, taxpayers should complete their ITR filing work from now on. Submit the return as soon as possible so that there is no problem at the last moment. Also, if there is any problem on the portal, then immediately inform the concerned department so that it can be fixed as soon as possible.
