According to a circular issued by the Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) on August 19, 2025, effective from April 1, 2025, the families of the late employees of the Central Board have significantly increased their grace death relief fund to ₹ 15 lakh. Earlier this amount was prescribed ₹ 8.8 lakh, and now it almost doubles the financial assistance given to the employees nominated from the Employees Welfare Fund or legal heirs, which provides adequate assistance in difficult times.
This circular approved by the Central Provident Fund Commissioner and the Chairman of the Central Staff Welfare Committee has also made compulsory growth from April 1, 2026, which ensures continuous assistance between rising costs. This is the second major increase, earlier in 2021, the amount for non-coved-19 deaths was increased from ₹ 4.2 lakh to ₹ 8 lakh, which benefited about 30,000 EPFO employees across the country.
EPFO stressed on streamlining claim procedures, eliminating the requirement of parent certificate for minors and simplifying joint announcements for Aadhaar updates, making it easier to access the money. Posts on X show positive feelings, users have praised automatic annual increments as a visionary improvement.
This step underlines the EPFO’s commitment to Employees Welfare under the Ministry of Labor and Employment. However, this benefit applies only to central board employees, not general EPF customers. As India’s largest provident fund body, the EPFO, which manages more than 6 crore customers, continues to improve services despite the occasional technical obstacles. Families facing losses can now rely on this better security trap, which will strengthen financial security in the organized sector.
