Israel-Hamas War: The conflict between Israel and Hamas has taken a new phase. Israeli troops have now moved in to take control of Gaza City. Israel officially approved settlement planning in the West Bank on Wednesday. This proposal is located in a region that has the potential to split the West Bank in two, which would almost eliminate the prospect of an independent Palestine in the future.

Israeli soldiers have launched a significant military offensive in Gaza City after approving the plan to take the city. Twenty thousand troops have had their duty extended as part of this operation, while sixty thousand more reserve soldiers have been called into action. According to Israeli army spokesperson Efi Defrin, the army is now stationed on the outskirts of Gaza City after the troops began their first action against the city. He said that since Gaza City serves as the terrorist group’s political and military hub, strikes against Hamas would be stepped up there.

Netanyahu said, “We won’t stop until we have eradicated Hamas.”

According to the army head, residents are being warned to leave. Although the goal of this operation is to rid Gaza City of Hamas entirely, civilians are also being impacted. According to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the operation’s timeframe is now being reduced in order to eliminate Hamas as quickly as feasible. He has reassured the army and reserve troops that we will triumph as a team. The administration of US President Donald Trump has backed Israel’s action. According to US Ambassador Mike Huckabee, Hamas will need to surrender and free the captives.

It was deemed a war crime by Hamas

However, this military action has been denounced by Hamas as a war crime against civilians. Additionally, the UN has cautioned that total control of Gaza City and forcible relocation may result in widespread civilian fatalities and infrastructural damage. Gaza, which already faces starvation, will face additional challenges as a result of this catastrophe. However, there is also growing resistance in Israel. Every day, people demonstrate here because this military action is endangering the lives of the hostages.

What is the settlement strategy of Israel?

The contentious E1 settlement plan in the West Bank has also received final clearance from Israel, putting an end to the prospect of a Palestinian state. The settlement area, or E1, is a portion of the barren terrain east of Jerusalem. Due to pressure from the US, this proposal, which had been under consideration for the previous 20 years, was halted earlier. PM Netanyahu has said unequivocally that Israel would continue to rule Gaza, East Jerusalem, and the West Bank. The Palestinians saw them as their future state, while Israel seized them during the 1967 conflict. Israeli settlements in the West Bank are seen by the international community as unlawful and a barrier to peace.
