The popularity of pickleball in India's capital city, New Delhi, has reached a fever pitch. What began as a curious pastime has now blossomed into a full-fledged sporting wave, drawing not only seasoned professionals with its ever-expanding calendar of tournaments but also a growing community of amateurs captivated by its many rewards.
The allure lies as much in its accessibility as in its health benefits. With minimal training required, pickleball opens its doors to players of all ages. It is little wonder then that the city finds itself caught in the thwack of the paddle. DHCBA Pickleball Tournament all set for kick off After the smashing success of the first-ever pickleball league for lawyers - LawStrings Pickleball Premier League - in South Delhi in May, the capital's legal luminaries will be back on court for yet another historic showdown, this time in a much bigger avatar. The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) is all set to host its maiden DHCBA Pickleball Tournament at Speed Up Club, Khan Market, New Delhi, with the event spread across nine days. Sanctioned by the Indian Pickleball Association (IPA), the tournament begins on August 22. The matches will run over three weekends (August 22, 23, 24; August 29, 30, 31; and September 5, 6, 7), culminating in the finals on September 7. Overwhelming response The event has received an overwhelming response - over 280 lawyers have signed up to compete across ten categories, divided into two sections: below 40 years of age and above 40 years of age, making it the biggest ever pickleball event for lawyers. The registration window for participation was open from July 16 to August 13. The opening match between the Hon'ble Judges and the Executive Committee of the Delhi High Court Bar Association will set the tone for the action ahead. While the thrill of competition will be palpable, the objective remains rooted in participation and enjoyment. True to the spirit of the game, there will be no prize money, though trophies will be awarded across all categories to celebrate achievement and sportsmanship. The tournament will stretch over at least three weekends, with matches scheduled from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM each day, ensuring the courts at Khan Market echo with energy well into the evenings.
